Microsoft Powerpoint

This is our first powerpoint project (but not the last!). With only a few tips and videos at our disposal, we were given the task to choose to create a presentation about either ourselves or about a large company. For me, I chose to a biography on Google. inc

Electronic Presentation Tips -Make your own powerpoint!

Know your target audience and the purpose of the presentation.

Be consistent with colours, backgrounds and font styles throughout. Use background colours that will contrast to the colour of the text to show up easily on a large screen. It's OK to use a template.

Simple and plain fonts between 22 and 36 points are best for easy reading. Do not use more than two different font styles. “Extra fancy" does not mean “extra effective”!

Use bullets to highlight key words, but limit the amount of text on each slide. We used to use the 7/7 Rule (maximum of seven bullets per slide and seven words per bullet) as a rough guide, but this is now considered to be too much text. If you can't summarise it, you don't understand it! DO NOT USE PARAGRAPHS.

Don't overdo the graphics - too many things happening on a slide will distract the audience from the message you're trying to get across.

Clipart & graphics, animation, video and audio can enhance your message - but again, be careful not to overdo it!

Spell check and proofread slides - spelling and grammatical errors will make you look very silly!

Use the speaker’s notes feature to help plan your presentation.

Check You Have Rights to the Content. This can cause you legal problems in the real world!

Practice with the slides before presenting. Be the expert on your content so that when speaking, you can face the audience and use the slides only as a support to what you have to say!
